There will be no world championship boxing inside the ring this Saturday in Stuttgart, Germany. With WBO Cruiserweight Champion Marco Huck (26-2-1, 25 KOs) sidelined due to a hairline fracture in his left elbow and not able to compete in a rematch with Firat Arslan (33-6-2, 21 KOs), the whole fight card is postponed to a later date.
“I am gutted to say the least,” said the 28-year-old titlist who suffered the injury in his final sparring session. “I was in such a good shape and ready to go. Now, my preparation was for nothing.” Huck, being the fighter he is, still tried to make the fight against Arslan happen. “After I went to the doctor on Friday, who said that I cannot compete on September 14, I wanted to get a second opinion. However, on Saturday evening another specialist told me that the damage to my elbow is serious and that I will be out for six to eight weeks.”
“Huck vs. Arslan II – that is the fight people want to see. In agreement with all parties involved we came to the conclusion to postpone this event onto a later date – hopefully to happen in Stuttgart,” stated Chris Meyer, CEO of Sauerland Event. “We will announce the exact date in the following days.” Regarding Huck’s injury, Meyer said: “First of all, Marco Huck has to get well again and cleared by the doctors. His next step would be to start preparations from the scratch.”
WBO Mandatory Challenger Firat Arslan was also very disappointed when he heard of Huck’s injury. “Get well soon, Marco,” the 42-year-old wished his upcoming opponent. “I had put in a lot of work to be in perfect shape for next weekend but that was to no avail. As professional athletes, we sometimes have to deal with those kinds of injuries. Arslan calm: “I have said before that I am a patient man – sooner or later I will get my chance. I will dethrone Marco Huck and become world champion again.”
