Hugo Centeno vs Gerardo IbarraMiddleweight prospect Hugo Centeno Jr. (22-0, 12KOs) has signed with powerful advisor Al Haymon. The news was announced through Centeno’s official Instagram account with a picture captioned “Centeno Signs To Haymon Sports.”

The Instagram was posted with the following message: “And its official #TeamBoss.” -@hugoboss805.

It is an interesting turn of events because Centeno’s biggest fights have been on Golden Boy Promotions cards, although he was never signed to the promotional company. In fact, Centeno is managed by Joel De La Hoya, the brother of Golden Boy owner Oscar De La Hoya. I always found it curious that Golden Boy never put ink to paper with Centeno, even though they’ve helped build him thus far.

Now it is a moot point and we have presumably seen the last of Centeno on Golden Boy cards with his allegiance to Haymon official.

Centeno looked great in his last outing, a 5th round KO over James De La Rosa in December of last year, which was one of his only two fights in 2014. Centeno has yet to make his 2015 debut and he needs to get into the ring, even if it’s a stay busy fight.

There is no word on a potential date, but Haymon has plenty of dates to fill and I’m sure we will see Centeno soon enough.
