Immediate Reaction: Golovkin-Jacobs NOT Happening This Year Possibly early 2017

The middleweight showdown between Gennady Golovkin and Daniel Jacobs will not happen this year due to both sides failing to agree on financial terms. The WBA mandated a 75/25 split in favor of the “super champ” Golovkin causing the “regular” champion to push back on those terms believing they deserve a more favorable share.

K2 who promotes Gennady Golovkin is still optimistic the fight will happen early 2017. “Naturally, we’re trying to work out a deal to avoid going to purse bid,” where a 75-25 split would be in play, “so we’re both happy,” Loeffler said. “There is still a deadline out there, but in the discussions right now, the time pressure is off.” Loeffler told Sky News.

Another factor in this fight not happening in 2016 is Daniel Jacobs’s trainer Andre Rozier does not believe his fighter has enough time to prepare for highly risky bout this December. “I don’t think 12/10 is happening,” said Jacobs’ trainer Andre Rozier to Boxing News. “Not enough time. It’s a great fight. It needs the proper seasoning.”
