badou-jack-hand-raisedBadou Jack had a lot to prove tonight after his major setback against Derek Edwards in February in which he was stopped in one round. Jack was on the fast track to a title shot at that time, so tonight he really needed to gain that ground he lost in his last fight.

His opponent Jason Escalera, while not being the most technically gifted fighter, is still somewhat dangerous because of his unorthodox aggressive style and conditioning, so Jack needed to be on his toes tonight.

Jack started the fight a little cautiously using a lot of movement. He seemed content in making the slower Escalera miss and really didn’t commit to landing anything big. Jack kept the fight on the outside and in the center of the ring, and was controlling the fight with his jab

As the fight wore on Jack seemingly started to gain confidence and began mixing in some crisp right hands behind his jab. He appeared to hurt Escalera and caused a cut over Escalera’s right eye as a result of one of those sharp shots in the second round.

Escalera was also wobbled a bit in the third and fourth rounds by right hands. From there on out the fight started to become one sided with each round pretty much a rerun of the previous one. Jack was just too quick and slick for the less polished Escalera.

It seemed that because Jack was able to get off first and land so cleanly that if he decided to put his foot on the gas pedal he may have been able to get Escalera out of there, but he chose to play it safe and cruise to victory in a virtual shutout.

In the end Jack won a unanimous decision by the scores of 100- 90 and 99-91 twice.
