Jamal James Remains Undefeated, Wins UD Over Game Abreu

Jamal JamesThe main event of Premier Boxing Champions – The Next Round on Bounce TV delivered a crowd-pleasing unanimous decision win (96 – 92, 97 – 91, 96 – 92) by Jamal James (18-0, 9 KOs)

Jamal James defeated Juan Carlos Abreu 18-2 (17KOs) via unanimous decision. The 6’2 welterweight James overcame the hard-hitting, scrappy and even dirty at times, Abreu, using head movement and clean punches.

“I adapted my style and started boxing more as the fight went on. Eventually I was able to time it right for when he came at me so I could strike first.

“He caught me with a right in the fourth that dropped me, but I didn’t feel too buzzed.


Throughout the fight, Abreu was pushing forward and often using his legs as a hook to try to catch the “Merengue” off balanced. The fourth round Abreu scored a knockdown, not appearing to hurt James significantly. James returned the favor landing a knockdown of his own in the sixth. As the fight moved into the later rounds, Jamal James took control of the fight, using his range and height.

“Hopefully a win like this pushes me even further. I wanted to show my skills, but he was a formidable fighter. This was a great step-up fight for me to show people I’m not just a paper fighter.


This was an ugly fight but had action in spots, and while the referee had control of the fight he failed to give Abreu a stern warning to get him to stop from fighting dirty Jamal James did enough to hold off Abreu to win a unanimous decision.

“I’m looking for more opportunities with PBC. This was an honor to get to fight in the main event on Bounce TV.

“I’ll fight whoever my manager Al Haymon wants me to fight next. I can’t wait to get back in the gym and continue refining my skills.”
