Will Canada’s star shine bright once more? Jean Pascal talked to ThaBoxingVoice.com about his upcoming fight December 14th and much more.

I don’t know about you guys, but I for one find Jean Pascal (26-2-1,16 KO’s) to be perhaps the most entertaining fighter at 175 pounds, or the most entertaining fighter above 160 pounds, period! With his welterweight-like speed, good pop to go with it, and his short fuse; he makes for some pretty interesting stuff both in the ring when he fights, and outside of the ring leading up to his fights.

In my opinion, the kid is talented, and has the potential to ‘hold down’, and stay atop of his division for many years to come. But that’s something that he has to want, and want fervently– but he must also have the discipline to enable him to do such thing. If he does that, and keeps that fire within him lit, he’ll serve his talent and his potential right.

On December 14th, the Haitian born Jean Pascal fighting out of Montréal, Quebec, Canada, will face Polish fighter, Alesky Kuziemski (23-4-0, 7 KO’s) with 3 of those losses coming by way of knockout. His most noteworthy fight, a loss to The UK’s undefeated, Nathan Cleverly.

The fight will be at the Bell Centre right in Pascal’s adoptive home town of Montreal, where he enjoys a large following that comes out in great numbers for his bouts. We at Tha Boxing Voice had the opportunity to conduct a phone interview with the Light Heavyweight star in which we touched on a number of topics.

(TBV): “So what’s going on man? How are you feeling? You ready for this big fight?”

Pascal: “Of course I can’t wait for this comeback! That’s going to’ make like ehh, 19 months that i was laid off so I’m really really excited to be back in the ring and I can’t wait ’til December 14th, I think it’s going to be a good night, and a great comeback for me.”

(TBV): “Definitely. Your fans have eagerly been waiting for you to come back. — You have two fights scheduled, you have this fight on December 14th and you’re also scheduled to fight Chad Dawson in Quebec again for the rematch. Do you think that you’re getting ahead of yourself by having that planned? Or have you been staying in shape?”

Pascal: Honestly, for me (in my eyes) I only have one fight [scheduled] and that fight is December 14th. I know there’s news of me fighting Chad Dawson but my main concern is this upcoming fight. I need to be focused on this Polish guy, because I know he’s going to come here and try and steal my lime light.”

Pascal also went on to add that he, “is a smart person, and a smart fighter” who learns from other fighters’ mistakes when told by our interviewer that fighters like Andre Berto and Victor Ortiz had their eyes set on future bouts instead of the ones in front of them. Both suffered “upset” losses perhaps for that very reason; Berto to Ortiz, who was coming from Jr. Welterweight to Welterweight, and Ortiz to Josesito Lopez who did the same, and defeated Ortiz.

Pascal was also asked about his hand injury and he stated that he got the ok hit the pads two months ago but that he was working out and staying in shape prior to that. Also, that it was a very bad bruise and that his hands are still sensitive. It still bothers him a bit. Although Pascal mentioned that he sparred on the Tuesday leading up to our interview, in a session which was a 12 rounder, in which he did very well. Despite the above mentioned injury, he thinks he will be ready to fight on December 14th and show the world that he’s not only the best in his division, but the best in the sport. He’s looking to put on performances which he hopes, will lead experts to put him atop the sports’ highly coveted “pound for pound” list.

Well, I as a boxing fan am looking forward to him being back in the ring. Even more so, I hope that those words of him wanting to be the best weren’t used in vain simply as a cliché which is uttered and echoed around the sport by many, but that he meant it with all sincerity and passion. If so, maybe, just maybe, we can enjoy another action star fighter to grace our television sets for the coming years.
