Junior lightweight prospect Jerry Belmontes has just inked a multi-fight deal with Golden Boy Promotions. The deal will likely kick off with Belmontes making his 2013 debut on the co-main event of a card that will feature Juan Diaz’s comeback fight on April 13th in Belmontes’ hometown of Corpus Christi, Texas.
Belmontes’ manager, Adrian Clark, confirmed the multi-fight deal through text message and touched on the initial expectations.
“It’s a multi-fight deal; they are interested in having him part of the Golden Boy Promotions roster. They want to see an impressive showing [from Jerry] for the next couple of fights and that’s what they’ll get because Jerry will deliver,” Clark said.
Belmontes suffered the first loss of his career last December in a junior lightweight matchup against late replacement opponent Eric Hunter. Belmontes has regrouped and is ready to comeback even stronger, this deal should be a big confidence boost and possibly add fire to an already heated fighter.
“Golden Boy can do so much for me; they can get me the fights I need to get me to the next level. More importantly, they can keep me busy with fights and they can help me reach my goal of becoming a world champion. I’m very happy to be on the team,” Belmontes said through text message.
