On December 6 Jessie Magdaleno (12-0) will fight for the vacant WBO NABO Youth super bantamweight title against Jonathan Arrellano (13-1-1). Jessie is going to be a future superstar of the sweet science and he gets to do it all in his hometown of Las Vegas. He is fast, powerful and relentless. The man’s record speaks for itself; seven out his twelve fights have ended in the first round. This guy doesn’t just want to win, he wants to hurt you and prove you don’t belong in there with him. He wants a world title.

First he needs more experience. He needs to take his time with this fight and get in some quality rounds. Jessie has a 120-16 record as an amateur and was a 2009 gold medalist in Salt Lake City, Utah and Denver, Colorado. Most boxers will tell that there is a big difference between amateur and professional fights and Jessie only has 30 rounds boxing experience as a pro.

Don’t let his aggression fool you, he is also skilled. Jessie can move in and out of range in the blink of an eye. He jumps in and mixes it up with good combinations to the body and head, and then jumps back out. Aldimar Silva Santos was tenderized in his fight with Jessie. Santos was knocked down in the 1st round, after being hit with a flurry in the corner and stopped in the second round. In his most recent fight with Jose Silveira, Jessie felt his power, realized that he could handle it, and then took him out; winning by a first round knockout.

When he wins this fight I’d love to see him take a step up in class and eventually face a Vic Darchinyan or a Scott Quigg. That would be an all action slugfest that I’d pay good money to see. Due to his high knockout percentage of 75%, opponents are falling like flies and after a few more fights I believe Jessie Magdaleno will be fighting for a world title. Who knows maybe he could give Abner Mares a run for his money.

Boxing must be in his genetics because his older brother Diego Magdaleno is also a undefeated contender; a junior lightweight contender who is ranked number four in the division by the Ring magazine. I believe I can speak for the fans when I say that we expect good things from the undefeated Magdaleno brothers.
