Joseph Diaz JrFormer Olympian and current rising boxing star Joseph “JoJo” Diaz Jr. (18-0, 10 KO’s) has been steadily climbing in the ranks since turning pro in 2012. He has fought five times already this year and has announced that he will be returning to the ring once more before the year comes to a close.

“I love being under the bright lights [where] I get showcase my talent. I’ll be back in the ring in December,” stated Diaz via social media this morning.

Fighting six times a year is nothing new to the South El Monte native. When Diaz turned pro, he fought only once that year (granted the fact that he turned pro in December. He stayed very busy in 2013 by fighting seven times and then fighting six times in 2014.

Diaz last fought on October 23rd against Ruben Tamayo and won a ten round unanimous decision, winning every round in the process. Tamayo, who many refer to as a gatekeeper for up and coming fighters, provided very little difficulty for Diaz, who looked impressive more so than Diaz’ fellow Olympian Oscar Valdez when he faced off against Tamayo earlier this year. Speaking of earlier this year, Diaz had possibly the greatest victory of his career to date when he took on Rene Alvarado of Nicaragua back in July.

The future looks bright for Diaz. Once he becomes more seasoned in the pro ranks his fights per year will steadily begin to decrease. It should not affect him as long as he continues fighting the right level of opposition things should be good for him as long as he does not sustain any injuries to slow him down he may be even ready to fight for a world title by the end of, if not earlier in the coming year.
