As first reported by BoxingScene.com, WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker is facing a highly touted prospect in Hughie Fury after a successful purse bid.

Duco Events, Parker’s promoter, won the bid with an offer of $3,011,000 with Parker getting 60%, %1,806,600, and Fury getting 40%, 1,204,400. Also, the WBO president told the Daily Star that the fight will be on April 1st in Auckland, New Zealand.

Hughie Fury

This bout is the perfect matchup for either man at their respective spot in their careers. Parker, who’s coming off his best win over another hot prospect in Andy Ruiz Jr., looked to struggle with the shorter bruiser, so Fury who is tall, long, and athletic could give Parker issues he hasn’t seen yet.

Fury has a similar situation where his best win was over gatekeeper Fred Kassi. While impressive, it was something that any talented boxer with potential should be able to do against Kassi. Parker who can match him for size and athleticism will be his biggest test to date.

Whenever boxing pits two, undefeated, and talented young boxers, it is sure to be exciting and revealing. Will Hughie Fury show that he’s on the elite level similar to his cousin Tyson Fury, or will Parker continue his rise from across the Pacific Ocean?

The winner of this bout will be in line for gigantic fights with the likes of Anthony Joshua/Wladimir Klitschko winner, Deontay Wilder, David Haye, and depending on the winner, possibly the absent king himself, Tyson Fury, while the loser will have to reinvent himself to the boxing public and go to the back of the queue.
