JulioCesarChavezJrJulio Cesar Chavez Jr. has experienced a long duration of inactivity due to legality issues with Top Rank. Chavez Jr. has reportedly filed a lawsuit against Top Rank, claiming his contract has ended, and should be considered a free agent. The details of the lawsuit have remained a mystery, but now according to Fightype.com’s Ben Thompson, Chavez Jr. is officially signed with Al Haymon, who many claim to be the most influential person in the sport of boxing.

If this is in fact true, it draws a paradox.

It is well known Al Haymon and Top Rank do not do business with each other. If Chavez Jr. is still not officially a free agent, this would mean he’s under the Top Rank banner and managed by Al Haymon at the same time, which is unprecedented.

There are three possibilities to this situation:

1:) Al Haymon and Top Rank will be forced to work together in order to get Chavez Jr. a fight.

2:) Top Rank has allowed Chavez Jr. to become a free agent, thus allowing the signing with Al Haymon.

3:) Chavez Jr. will experience a longer delay to his career, while trying to sort out the legality issues with Top Rank.

If Chavez Jr, can officially become a free agent, he would certainly transfer from HBO to Showtime. This prevents a showdown with Gennady Golovkin or Canelo Alvarez from taking place for now, but the possibility of fighting Carl Froch would remain.
