Amir Khan Kell BrookNews broke yesterday when La Times Boxing writer Lance Pugmire reported that the Mayweather sweepstakes for September were down to two men, Amir Khan and Kell Brook. Khan’s name has been mentioned with Mayweather’s name for years but now it seems like Kell Brook is getting into the discussion. Maybe it’s posturing or maybe it’s legit, but Brook feels he deserves the Mayweather shot over Khan

“If anyone is getting that Mayweather fight it’s me,” Brook Said to ESPN’s Steve Buncey on his podcast. “I’m unbeaten, never been beat, never been close to being beat. I’m world champion.”

Had Mayweather kept all his 147 titles instead of dropping them after the Manny Pacquiao fight, a fight with Brook would have been for the undisputed welterweight championship. But Mayweather dropped his three sanctioning body titles ahead of what may be his last fight in September.

Khan was thought to be the frontrunner but Brook feels every time Khan faces a legitimate puncher, he loses.

“Every time Amir Khan steps up he gets beat, he gets knocked out,” Brook said. “He didn’t look very good in his last fight I’ve been told. I heard it could have gone either way. He’s being very clever with his opponents; he’s not been in with genuine welterweights.”

But Brook still wants to fight Khan and soon too.

It’s a massive fight in Britain domestically, it’s huge internationally,” stated Brook. “I think everybody all over the world wants to see the fight between me and Khan.”

Brook feels if Khan wants Mayweather, he should beat him first then fight Mayweather

“If he thinks I’m an easy opponent and he can beat me by ease then why not get an IBF world title belt and then you’ve got that pulling power and you can really shout loud for the Mayweather fight.”
