Amir KhanAmir Khan fell out the Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao sweepstakes when both fighters agreed to fight each other. Khan still has no opponent or date as of yet. With Ramadan coming up in June, time is running thin on choosing a date and time for Khan But Khan says he wants to fight in New York in May.

“Hopefully next fight May 30th in New York,” Khan told FightHype.com. “I had a fight there with Paulie Malignaggi there. I have a huge fan base over there plus its closer to England. I want to tell my team I want to fight in New York, get an opponent financially that makes sense. “

Rumors have it that Khan may fight Chris Algieri who happens to be from New York and is coming off a loss to Manny Pacquiao on the pay-per-view stage. So that may be the business sense he’s talking about. Many fans want Khan to take on the likes of Keith Thurman and Kell Brook. Khan says as a fighter, he loves those fights but says his team wants fights for him that make the most sense.

“You can’t really plan something, someone might come on the scene and have a great performance,” stated Khan. “Someone might be an underdog and be a world champion and he can be a contender. It’s about being patient. I’m going let my team, my advisor Al Haymon advise me the right way. In boxing, you can pick the right fight at the right time. I could be macho and say I want to fight Keith Thurman and Kell Brook tomorrow but does it make financial sense right now? Or does it make more financial sense fighting them next year, build it more and promote it more.”

Khan feels his career is being moved in the right direction, and he’s listening more to his team because he’s too macho.

“We’re prize fighters and like Floyd says it’s about getting the biggest prize. I used to be to macho but now it’s about being calm and letting my team do their job. If my team asks me about fighting Broner and Thurman, of course, I’m going to say yea. But my team will get me on a leash and tell me to calm down. You have to treat it like a business.”
