Khan: I’m not ducking Brook; I’m not interested.

Amir KhanAmir Khan is a scared man according to IBF World welterweight champion Kell Brook.

This comes after his domestic rival, once more, told him to wait longer for their highly-anticipated fight, which would be one of the biggest clashes in British boxing history.

While Khan survived a close, tough fight against New York native Chris Algieri, the Sheffield fighter retained his title with a sixth-round stoppage of Frankie Gavin on Saturday evening, but admitted following the fight that any hopes of fighting Khan at this point are fading quickly.

Matchroom Sport’s Eddie Hearn, Brook’s promoter, implied that it’s not going to be easy to land a fight with Khan, especially with the Bolton fighter vying to be Floyd Mayweather’s final opponent in September.

Brook is understandably frustrated with the former 140 lb. champion. Speaking with Sky Sports News HQ, the undefeated champion spoke candidly regarding his thoughts about a potential Mayweather-Khan fight, which he believes Khan has zero chance of landing.

“I think he’s full of rubbish. If there is a world title on the line, any fighter that lives with a pair of gloves wants to fight for a world title.

“There is no bigger fight in Britain than me and Khan; it sells any arena out. It doesn’t make sense to me at all, so he’s got to be running scared.

“There is no chance of him getting the Floyd Mayweather fight. He’s done nothing to merit that fight. Every time he’s stepped up, he’s got knocked out. I don’t know why he’s playing these games.”

There is a chance Khan could land the Mayweather fight, as the former five-division world champion stated that he would vacate all his titles, making his final fight a non-title bout.

So far, it appears the WBO title is the only one that has gone as far as potentially crowning a new champion on June 26th when former WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley fights to recapture the vacant title against Jessie Vargas.

Khan’s WBC Silver title is not recognized as an official championship. If Mayweather stands by his word, that will eliminate Keith Thurman and Kell Brook, for example, from contention.

While we can say what we want to say about whether Mayweather-Khan being a mismatch and what not, we can’t say Khan doesn’t have a chance to land the fight, because he does based on what Mayweather has said in the past month.

Khan denied claims that he was ducking Kell Brook while speaking to Sky Sports News HQ but also admits that he isn’t interested in fighting him.

“I’ve fought everyone that’s been put in front of me – and I will fight anyone who is put in front of me.

“If the fight between Kell and I happens, then my team will put it together, but at the moment, I have no interest in it.”

I’m not ducking the man, but I have no interest in fighting the man. What does the panel think? Do you think Khan is ducking Brook?
