itter noise last night when he tweeted a suggestion about his next fight.
“Khan v @RealMiguelCotto I’d take that fight in a heartbeat at catch weight 155lbs for the @WBCBoxing Middleweight title. Stylistically Cotto would be a great fight for me. He’s a great champion. Just imagine that fight in the UK.”
Those tweets have question marks all around it. For starters, Khan is with Al Haymon and Miguel Cotto has aligned himself with Top Rank. So the same issues that have stopped fights before that included Al Haymon and Bob Arum in the equation have stopped many fights before. Secondly, Khan isn’t a full fledged JR. Middleweight as he just enter the 147 lb division. Thirdly, Miguel Cotto isn’t going to the United Kingdom to fight Amir Khan and no one as its proven in the Canelo Alvarez negotiations, will dictate what Cotto does.
It does bring other negotiation questions to the forefront. Both Cotto and Khan have been mentioned as the plan B options for Mayweather should a fight with Manny Pacquiao not come to light. So is Khan just posturing or could this mean we might be close to a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight because Khan knows something we don’t?
The negotiations between Mayweather-Pacquiao took the weekend off and they will continue on Monday. So this tweet could be good news for the fight we want to happen.
