untitledThe rumor that ThaBoxingVoice.com reported on last week seems to be turning into reality. Multiple media outlets including BoxingScene.com and The SweetScience.com are reporting that a fight between Unified 175 lb. Champion Sergey Kovalev and former lineal 175 lb. champion Jean Pascal is in the final stages of being set for March 14th likely in Montreal on HBO.

Kathy Duva, the promoter of Sergey Kovalev spoke to Mike Woods of TheSweetScience and stated that the bout was in the works and is closed to being finalized.

BoxingScene.com reported that Jean Bedard who co-promotes Pascal was in the U.S. this past weekend to negotiate a deal with Duva.

Pascal is the number 1 contender for Adonis Stevenson’s WBC bout but Stevenson seems to want the lion’s share of the pie which Pascal would not agree to and rightfully so as Pascal is just a big of draw if not bigger in Montreal.

Kovalev is coming off a dominating victory over Bernard Hopkins. Kovalev and Stevenson seemed to be headed on a collision path last year but Stevenson jumped ship to Showtime in hopes of landing the Hopkins bout. Hopkins chose to jump back to HBO to fight Kovalev.

It seems that the trend here is Stevenson and company are hard to negotiate with as Hopkins chose to fight Kovalev and it seems that Pascal will do the same thing. Kovalev is willing to travel for big fights as he’s gone to England for a fight with Nathan Cleverly and would be packing his bags to go to Canada for this bout when finalized.
