Not too far removed from his stoppage of Kendall Holt, Lamont Peterson’s name is hot once again and is in a division that is probably the hottest in boxing. Peterson is almost certain to be facing hard hitting Argentine, Lucas Matthysse on May 18th of this year. ThaBoxingVoice.com’s Peter Clarke caught up with the IBF champion discussing Lucas Matthysse and regarding the rumor he turned down a fight with Amir Khan’s return to England April 27th.

     ThaBoxingVoice:

How does it feel to be back as the champion after all the stuff and accusations you have had to go through in past year?

    Lamont Peterson:

I’m very happy with my performance and I’m ready for more big fights.

    TBV:

Did Holt ever hurt you at anytime during the fight or were you pretty good from start till end?

    LP:

No, I was never hurt at all.

    TBV:

When you are fighting in DC, do you feel the energy of the crowd when you are in there or are you so much in a zone that you block them out?

    LP:

I try to block some of it out. The 1st 3 rounds they tried to hype me, but I just had to stick to the game plan. After the 3rd, I felt I could control the fight.

    TBV:

There is a rumor that you are working on a fight with Lucas Matthysse on May 18th in AC at Boardwalk Hall, is that finalized or at least close to being done? And is that the correct date and venue?

    LP:

It not finalized but it’s being worked on, if it is the 18th, it definitely WON’T be in DC, and it would probably be in AC.

    TBV:

Have you watched Lucas fight before? If so, what is something he does that impresses you? His boxing skill? His power? His chin?

    LP:

Yea, I’ve seen him; I’m a boxing fan so I watch a lot of fights. His chin impresses me because I’ve never seen him hurt and he punches pretty hard and shows good boxing skills.

    TBV:

So far Matthysse hasn’t exactly faced top notch competition, do you think his power is for real? Do you respect it?

    LP:

He has great power, even with his level of competition, you can see his power, but I believe I hit harder.

    TBV:

Amir Khan’s business manager Asif Vali recently said you turned down “a lot” of money to fight Amir; can you confirm or deny this? Or at least explain the situation? Was it short notice? Traveling to UK? Not enough money?

    LP:

I was never notified of anything with Amir Khan regarding a fight.
