Lightning Lenny Daws to “go and get” the European title from Michele Di Rocco on June the 8th.
The Carshalton light-welterweight has been in preparation since the beginning of the year and after several delays he is now primed and ready for his Italian job.
“It’s a dream come true you know, getting a shot at the European,” Lenny said.
“Every boxer wants to be world champion don’t they? There’s only a few of them that can make it, but the European’s your ticket, you know, if you can get that anything’s possible.”
After multiple re-scheduling Lenny will finally get his long awaited European light-welterweight title shot next month.
But, in Di Rocco, he meets a man who boasts 34 wins with 15 knockouts, with only the single defeat and one draw to his name.
The Italian will certainly not want to lose his title in front of his home crowd, but Lenny is determined and focussed to the challenge ahead.
“I knew it was coming, I just had to keep on progressing and I’ve picked up the EU title and it’s here now so I’m really looking forward to it,” Lenny said.
“I know it’s in Italy, but by all means I’m going to be well up for it, focussed and I’m going to go and get it.
“I have boxed abroad before in the amateur days and boxed well, so it’s not going to affect me – if anything I’m going to be more focussed.
“I’m away from home, away from the family, I’ve gone to do a job and I’m going to do it.”
OPI 2000 are promoting the event and the night is also scheduled to include the EBU super-middleweight title contest between Italy based Senegalese fighter Mohamed Ali Ndiaye and Frenchman Christophe Rebrasse.
The venue for the contests is the Palazzetto dello Sport, Brindisi, Italy.
