Andre BertoThe last time you seen welterweight contender Josesito Lopez, he was on his way to defeating Andre Berto before getting stopped by the former welterweight champion. Lopez hurt his hand in the fight and is on his way back to the gym to start training again.

“I got a little surgery on my hand,” Lopez told ThaBoxingVoice.com. “It set me back a few months. We’re healing and we’ll be back soon.”

When he returns to the gym, it’ll be with a new trainer as he has parted ways with longtime trainer Henry Ramirez.

“It’s just a necessary change and it’s something I did lots of thinking about,” Lopez said. “Ramirez is a good friend and he still remains my friend. But we just split ways.”

No one thought by defeating Lopez, Berto would get a shot at Floyd Mayweather. Be that as it may, Lopez feels he would have given Mayweather more difficulty than Berto will.

“Berto’s a tough fighter and a good fighter. He’s been in with the top guys in the world. I think he could give Floyd a little trouble but it won’t be enough trouble. I think it’d be a more exciting fight with me in there with Mayweather but either way it’s a fight. He should give him a little difficulty but now much.”

So when can we see Lopez back in the ring. The Riverside fighter says sometime in February of 2016. Under the PBC banner, Lope will remain at welterweight because there are a lot of fights to be had at 147.

“There are a lot of fighters in the welterweight division. Robert Guerrero is one of them. Danny Garcia is one of them. Adrien Broner when he’s back at welterweight. The lineup is huge at welterweight. I’ll get back in there in February and we’ll start working from there.”
