hi-res-6531078_crop_exactThe fight boxing fans have been craving for all over the world is a bout between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao. At times it seemed as both sides would never come to an agreement, but recently optimism is arising. Mayweather and Pacquiao have been outspoken that they want the fight to happen, and rumors of progress at the negotiation table have surfaced through media outlets. If the mega fight doesn’t occur, Mayweather has another viable opponent people have drawn an interest to which is a bout with Amir Khan.

After Amir Khan dominated Devon Alexander, Paulie Malignaggi believed Khan’s performance earned him a chance to fight Mayweather. Malignaggi told iFLTV, “Amir deserves it. Amir is more dangerous to Floyd than Pacquiao. I’d pick Amir over Mayweather.”

Malignaggi went on to explain, “I’d pick Amir and it’s not because Floyd isn’t a great fighter, but just because styles make fights. It’s a tough style. Amir wins rounds and Floyd fights to win rounds, but nobody wins rounds better than Amir. Floyd is great at counterpunching but Amir’s tough to counterpunch. You have to punch with him. Floyd is not the type of fighter who punches with someone, he counters. Alexander tried to counter Amir all night, and there were a few counters but not enough to be effective.”

Whether Malignaggi’s prediction are in fact true may never be realized if Mayweather decides to fight Pacquiao on May 2nd. Khan has made it clear in the past he will not fight in September due to religious reasons.

If Khan doesn’t get the opportunity to face off against Mayweather, he still has a big fight available with Kell Brook. Malignaggi’s assessment on the fight was, “You know what’s crazy, Kell Brook might still beat Amir. I’m telling you styles make fights. I don’t know who wins between Kell Brook and Amir Khan.”
