Paulie MalignaggiWelterweight veteran Paulie Malignaggi (33-7, 7 KO’s) has stated his intention to continue his in-ring career following a one-sided loss to Danny Garcia on August 1st.

In an article posted on World Boxing News, Malignaggi said he will be traveling to his ancestral home later this month to fight an opponent yet to be confirmed. It will be his quickest turn-around between bouts for quite some time.

“Fighting in Italy has always been my dream, and I am happy to carry on September 26 at the Prince Theatre. I was born to Italian parents in New York. I lived there for the first six years of my life in Italy; I feel Italian. I will certainly excited to fight in front of the Italian public.”

Malignaggi has often spoken of his ambition to return to the home of his family and showcase his skills as well as winning the EBU (European) title, currently held by Leonard Bundu.

In recent interviews, he said he believes inactivity had perhaps blunted his blades when he fought Garcia following 16 months out of the ring, so this next bout will tick a lot of boxes for him moving forward into the twilight of his career.

He is a former two-time, two-weight world champion moving into his late-thirties. Many may think there is little left for him to do in the sport, but tangible goals can focus person to surpass what others feel is possible. We could find that when Malignaggi drops down a level in competition, he is still capable of putting up some solid performances.
