untitledAttorney Michael Miller, manager of Austin Texas fighter James Kirkland, said last week that Kirkland could be fighting on Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s undercard for his 2014 finale, presumably taking place in November, although December is just as likely, and according to Miller it will likely take place in San Antonio.

“Looks like James is probably going to fight in November on the Canelo undercard, we’re working on that right now. That card is probably coming to Texas, probably will be in San Antonio,” Miller said to Boxing RodG of YouTube.

James has been considered as an opponent for Canelo and many fans hoped that they would meet before the end of 2014. But Canelo had a very difficult fight in July against Erislandy Lara and it is understandable if Canelo decides to wait on Kirkland because that fight would be very rough.

You have to presume that Kirkland fighting on Canelo’s undercard is a way of building the promotion for a potential fight between the two sometime next year. Kirkland being vetted on the Canelo undercard is smart, even if he isn’t exactly first on Canelo’s list in 2015.

Meanwhile, Kirkland is preparing for an end of the year fight, and according to Miller he is currently focused on getting into shape before officially entering fight camp.

“James is training, he’s not back with Anne Wolfe yet, he’s going to train with Anne, but he’s working out at a fitness gym and he’s probably down to 170 right now. He’s doing really well, I saw him this week and he’s really excited about this upcoming opportunity.”
