Coming into Friday night Mariana Juarez had a lot at stake in her fight with Alejandra Soto (originally supposed to be Susy Sandoval). Juarez had just come off a loss in the second half of last year and wants a chance at revenge to get the title back that she lost to Yulijan Luna.

Soto came in on a three-fight winning streak against lesser competition and almost a two-and-a-half-year layoff. Looking at her you wouldn’t give her much of a chance but once the bell rang she and Juarez traded heavy blows throughout the fight. Juarez landed the heavier blows and Soto had no answer for what was coming her way. After the fourth round, it was clear in Soto’s corner that she would not be coming back for another round and the fight was stopped.

With this victory Juarez made history with 55 victories on her record which is a new high for women’s boxing. The previous record was held by Regina Halmich of Germany.
