box_g_marquez576According to ESPN Deportes, Juan Manuel Marquez continues to hold interest in a bout against IBF titleholder Kell Brook in the United Kingdom. Marquez stated, “If I return to the ring I won’t close the door to anyone, and will consider fighting in England. We will be waiting to be involved in a championship fight, and pursue a fifth world title. As of now we are evaluating all of our options.”

At the moment, Floyd Mayweather Jr. holds the WBA and WBC title belts while Manny Pacquiao holds the WBO belt. Marquez has repeatedly told the media he is not interested in a rematch with either fighter, so his most viable option may be a bout with Brook for a world title shot.

Marquez explained he has not seen Brook fight, but realizes he’s a great champion with a big following in the United Kingdom. A bout against Brook in the U.K. is an option they are willing to exercise, but Marquez’s main priority is to first get his 41-year-old body in top physical condition. He told ESPN Deportes, he’s currently undergoing therapy sessions and will make an announcement if he returns to the ring based on how his knee responds.

If Marquez can make a full recovery, he will be open to a variety of options. But Promoter Fernando Beltran, who works in conjunction with Marquez, has admitted to ESPN Deportes, he’d enjoy Marquez making his return to the ring in his native country of Mexico first, before pursuing a bout with Kell Brook.
