Women’s boxing has often faced the criticism that it is not entertaining which is not often the case. With shorter rounds (2 minutes), the fighters throw everything including the kitchen sink at each other in order to secure a victory, entertain the crowd and allow for bigger paydays/features in the future.

Tonight (November 5th) Mikaela Mayer and Maiva Hamadouche put on a spectacle of a fight that put every single woman in every division on notice. THIS IS HOW YOU GET WOMEN’S BOXING TO WHERE YOU WANT IT TO BE AT!

The two women brawled throughout the entire fight and it seemed that will and not skill would be the determining factor. Hamadouche had the will but Mayer proved the will and the skill in the end to get a unanimous decision with the scorecards reading: 98/92, 99/91and 100/90. The scorecards were atrocious as the fight could have gone either way round by round but in the end the right person one.

This performance was what Mayer needed in her career. Hamadouche was the toughest opponent Mayer has had and until tonight she was the best prime fighter. Hamadouche is no slouch and one punch could have changed all that.

This bout will go down as a classic in the history of women’s boxing and fans will talk about this fight for a long time.

Hamadouche has nothing to be ashamed of; the judges do. She can continue on and still has a lot left in the tank.

Hopefully Mayer can continue fighting the top opponents. With this performance her stock went up tremendously and the other champions should be more intrigued to unify as Mayer has stated that becoming undisputed is her goal.

Promoter’s seem to be willing to work together like they did in this collaboration now it’s just up to the fighters.
