After much deliberation, speculation, anticipation, arguments, and multiple polls Floyd Mayweather announced via his twitter and shots application that he will be fighting Marcos Maidana on May 3rd on Showtime PPV/CBS
Via his shots and twitter:
“I will be fighting Marcos Maidana May 3rd on Pay-Per-View Showtime/CBS.”
Amir Khan was said to be the front runner in the Mayweather sweepstakes. He himself was so sure that he was getting the fight that he passed up on a title shot against Devon Alexander. He was so confident that Khan told the UK press that he had essentially signed his part of the deal.
Marcos Maidana, on the other hand made noise in 2013 by beating Josesito Lopez and then upsetting “little brother” Adrien Broner in December. Maidana picked up ground by fighting and being active and upsetting the apple cards once again.
Mayweather left it up to the fans to decide or so we thought. Mayweather put a poll on his site between Maidana and Khan which Khan won. However on multiple polls outside of the MayweatherPromotions.com website, Maidana was the victor.
So it will be Mayweather-Maidana on May 3rd with a venue to be decided. Mayweather usually fights in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand but the Barclays Center is also rumored to be in play.
