In a recent interview, Floyd Mayweather Sr. told Tha Boxing Voice that he feels a rematch between Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32KOs) and his son Floyd Mayweather Jr. (47-0, 26KOs) would have the same outcome as their first encounter in 2012, which, despite being some-what competitive for a “Money” bout, was still a fairly one-sided points victory in favor of the undefeated pound-for-pound king. However, he didn’t dismiss a second fight with the recently rejuvenated Puerto Rican, making it clear who the boss is saying, “If he (Floyd) want to fight him, (he can) fight”.
When asked about the possibility of boxing’s biggest new star Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28KOs) coming down to 154lbs to fight his son, Mayweather Sr. had this to say,”Man forget all that stuff about him coming down to (1)54, that mother-fucker can eat overnight and be between 160 and 170lbs man, damn that bullshit, all that stuff, that’s how bad they want Floyd to be whooped because they know Floyd’s the man and the guy in the corner’s got the plan, they know that and they (are) doing whatever it takes to knock him off some kind of way and you know what?, ain’t none of ’em got the skills (to beat Floyd), it ain’t gonna work.”
Floyd didn’t get to 47-0 by taking big risks or giving his opponents any advantages. At this very late stage in his career, he has understandably shown some signs of decline in the ring and there is no-way he would risk his precious undefeated record against a much bigger, stronger, younger, up-and-coming fighter like the devastating Kazakh, who with a 90% knockout percentage is one of the most feared men in all of boxing but a Cotto rematch would seem more like something the 37-year-old would be interested in, as it would surely be his best chance of becoming a Middleweight champion, defeating a popular guy he already knows he can beat and with 34-year-old Cotto now being trained by Freddie Roach it’s certainly not a fight boxing fans around the World would be mad at either.
