The “Artist” Michael Perez is schedule to be the co-main event of Showtime’s “ShoBox: The New Generation.” on the undercard of Randy Caballero vs. Mexico’s Manuel Roman.

Perez is looking to continue is win streak on his comeback trail after suffering his first loss to Omar Figueroa in a fight where Perez retired on his stool. Since then, Perez faced Eric Cruz 13-10-3 13 KO’s in a fight that was a confidence builder in June.

Perez is schedule to face once beaten Fidel Maldonado Jr. (13-1, 11 KO’s). Perez and Maldonado share a common opponent in Eric Cruz as they both scored wins over Cruz with Perez getting the stoppage in second-round technical knockout and Maldonado scoring a unanimous decision in a 8 round fight. Perez had this to say, “yeah but he went the distance.”

Perez and Maldonado Jr. have more in common than just Cruz, they have also met before in the amateurs. Perez added. “Fidel [Maldonado], I mean I know him from the amateurs. I fought him in the golden gloves nationals I beat him, I know he’s a south paw, I kind of know him a little bit.”

Golden Boy Promotions continues to back Perez in his comeback after that first lost, which is a good thing because Perez has talent and losses don’t define a fighter. Perez possesses the ability to become a force in the 135 lb. division, Perez added “Most definitely, I got to make a statement, I made a statement my last fight and I’m going to continue making a statement, and I’m happy that they [Golden Boy] gave me the opportunity to stay active and to show the world who Michael Perez is.”

All great fighters know how and when to make adjustments. Perez is taking steps in the right directions by making adjustments in his camp with the addition and deletion of certain things that may turn out to be fruitful. Perez said, “I got a nutritionist, so I’m eating better, I’m dropping down in weight properly, I got a new strength trainer. I added a lot of new things to my team. I’m happy right now, I feel strong, mentally, and physically. I feel like never before. People are going to see August 24th like they seen in my last fight, I’m just going to continue showing the world.”

Perez has a T.V friendly style, one that attracts fans so it’s a good thing for both him and the fans that his fight will be aired on Showtime. Luckily Perez has the backing of Golden Boy who also realizes that Perez is good for T.V. “I’m very excited, I just want to fight I’m happy to be back on ShoBox and come back and stay active. I just want to stay active and keep showing the world who Michael Perez is,” stated Perez.

Perez is getting his confidence back and on August 24th; he’ll be facing a somewhat familiar face; one that he says he beat fairly easy in the past, so maybe he ends the night making the same statement as in his last fight? Perez added, “We go into every fight just to get that W if the knockout comes we take it. At the end of the day, if the knockout doesn’t come we are ready for the 10 rounds or however many rounds. We are going in there to show the world I’m the next big thing in boxing.”
