Though fighting on big time networks like HBO and Showtime is considered to have “made it” in this sport, you have a limited amount of people who can really tune in. Now that the sport is taking a turn into being broadcasted on basic cable TV, you have a tremendous amount of new fans that can tune into the sport.

One fighter who is looking very promising in his career and who you can sure expect to see soon on your television is Maryland’s Mike “Yes Indeed” Reed. Reed, who is signed to Bob Arum’s Top Rank, secured his 14th win earlier on the undercard of the latest installment of Top Rank’s boxing series “Friday Night Knockout”.

Reed took on Osenohad Vazquez in an 8 round Jr welterweight bout, in which he finished his man in just 2 rounds after punishing him with left hooks, not giving his opponent the benefit of the doubt coming in.
Vazquez, who has 3 losses, all by which were by knockouts, was two months shy of a TKO loss. Reed took advantage of this and exploited it in the ring.

“Anytime you’re in that ring and you get knocked out; there’s a little bit of doubt.” Said Reed.

“I didn’t want to give him any type of confidence going into the first round. That’s why I came out so fast, and once I got him hurt, I just wanted to get the job done.” And indeed he did.

With a very impressive showing, Reed is looking to continue the success in his career, even more so now that many more doors have opened for guys like him in the boxing game.

Like many other promising prospects, Reed would want nothing more than to gain the utmost exposure. Especially in a sport like boxing where, up until this year, you had to have had HBO and/or Showtime to see some of today’s stars, and that was even if they were able to secure those kinds of TV deals. With these primetime boxing series’ now available for everyone with a TV and cable connection, it’s a major push for guys to leave a major impression on fans who have never even watched the sport.

“It kind of feels like I’m up next, you know. Right now I can honestly admit that I’m not ready for HBO or Showtime yet, but with that being said Top Rank does have this deal with Tru TV and that’s very big for prospects like myself and other prospects fighting on this card. You have a lot of fighters that fans don’t know about, and I just want to keep my name in the loop and keep my name out there.”
