Mikey GarciaMikey Garcia has not been in the ring since he won the 130 lb. title by defeating Juan Carlos Burgos. Garcia was rumored to face Yuriorkis Gamboa in the same year but apparently turned down the fight because of issues with his promoter Top Rank, Inc. Since then Garcia has been sitting on the sidelines but says he’s in shape and ready to go.

“I’m still here training like always, helping out my brother work with his fighters as well, and keeping in shape,” Garcia said to ESPN Deportes.

Still in battle with Top Rank Inc., Garcia says there has been positive movement, and an end could be near.

“What I can I say about my situation is that there’s nothing definitive, but there are progress with my lawyers and their lawyers and the talks are ongoing,” explained the two-division world champion.

Garcia is hopeful that his situation gets resolved, and a return could be imminent by the end of the year.

“I still think I can jum start my career,“ explained Garcia. “I hope to fight by the end of this year. The litigation process is going. I think it’s already been too long since I’ve been out of the ring. There still isn’t an agreement just yet, but things are positively moving forward.”

Garcia wants to return at the jr. welterweight limit, and although his opponent this year will be a tune up when he returns, he hopes to take on the elite very soon.

“I stand firm that I want to return at 140 lbs. I don’t think it’ll be an elite fighter that I step in with when I return because I been out so long. But there are a lot of great fighters at 140 and 147, so we can make a lot of great fights, but first we got to fix my current situation and then we’ll talk rivals later.”
