Mikey Garcia Robert Garcia Floyd MayweatherAfter a lengthy battle with Top Rank that has kept him out of the ring since January 2014, boxer Mikey Garcia is finally ready to put his promotional troubles behind him and get back to business. And it’s now known with whom he’ll be doing business: Floyd Mayweather Jr.

According to a report by The AK and Hitch Show that was posted to their Instagram account, Garcia has officially inked a deal with Mayweather Promotions.

It was no secret that Mayweather himself had been courting Garcia in recent weeks. In fact, TBV correspondent Sean Zittel recently chatted with Garcia on that very topic.

“(Mayweather) is very interested so we have been talking. But we’ll see what happens,” Garcia said.

Garcia’s brother, veteran trainer Robert Garcia, also has a close relationship with Mayweather, and it appears the timing was perfect for the three gentlemen to work together to find Mikey a new home as a member of The Money Team.

A business marriage between Mikey and Floyd seems like an ideal fit for both. Mayweather is a very hands-on promoter outside of the ring, and his stable of fighters could use a big name and an elite talent like Garcia. It certainly seems like a mutually beneficial relationship that will immensely help push Garcia’s career along while also building up the Mayweather Promotions brand.

“I think I’m hungrier now after being off for over two years,” Mikey told Tha Boxing Voice. “I’m hungrier to come back and prove to everybody what I really have to offer in the boxing world.”

Garcia also touched on his plans to campaign in the junior welterweight division while possibly dabbling in the lightweight division.

“I’m looking at the 140 division for my first return fight, then maybe coming down to ’35, picking up a title there at lightweight before I move back up to ’40,” he said.

All the fighters at 135 and 140 will definitely be taking notice: Mikey Garcia is back.
