Mikey GarciaIt has been almost two years since former two division world champion Miguel “Mikey” Garcia (34-0, 28 KO’s) last stepped foot in a boxing ring due to a contractual dispute with his promoter Top Rank. Garcia has wanted to sever his ties with the promoter and has even filed a lawsuit against Top Rank but revealed recently that he is willing to give them one more fight if it would mean the end of his contract with the company.

“If Top Rank offered me a fight with (Terence) Crawford and says, ‘That’s it! That’s your last fight,’ I would take it,” Garcia said to FightHype.com . “I’d beat him, walk away with the belt, and leave Top Rank free and clear…but that’s not the way they work…they’d need 3 fights from me…6 fights…that’s a whole new contract.”
Garcia fought and lost to Crawford once as an amateur and has stated that Crawford was ahead by a couple points in the first round but ran for the rest of the fight and won due to the amateur point system. Later on, Garcia’s nephew fought Crawford and did better with a different game plan but ended up losing by one point. Garcia claims that a rematch with Crawford would go differently now due to smaller gloves, no headgear and the different scoring system.
While Garcia has remained inactive for quite some time, he has kept himself busy with training and staying in shape and still appears to be very sharp. Crawford, on the other hand, has been busy building himself up to be a top ten pound for pound fighter with convincing victories over top fifteen fighters at lightweight and junior welterweight and even won his last fight via tenth round TKO victory over once beaten Dierry Jean.
