Much Like De La Hoya, Canelo Taking On All Comers

In anything that you do in life, the only way to be considered the absolute best is to consistently face the toughest challenges and seize those special moments when in them. This is something former six division world champion Oscar De La Hoya knows a lot about. After facing the likes of Julio Caesar Chavez Sr., Pernell Whitaker, Felix Trinidad, Shane Mosely, Bernard Hopkins, and Floyd Mayweather among others.

No one can deny that win or lose throughout his career Oscar has taken on some of the sports toughest challenges. This is why his statement pertaining to his admiration for what Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is doing in facing Erislandy Lara holds so much weight. Everyone knows that outside of Floyd Mayweather Jr. Erislandy Lara is the man to beat in the 154lb division. In my opinion, up to this point Lara has taken on and defeated (even if he didn’t get the decision he deserved to win) every worthy challenger in the division. He is the most feared/ducked fighter in boxing outside of Andre Ward. In fact, there are other fighters who despite being naturally bigger, highly touted, and heavily feared by many, who have chose not to fight him because of the high risk level involved in such an endeavor.

All of this is why I agree with Oscar 100% here… You HAVE to respect what Canelo is doing. It’s extremely admirable. Especially in this era of fighters in his position usually doing all they can to avoid the big challenges so win or lose Canelo has my respect.
