Martin MurrayMartin Murray will face Jose Miguel Torres at the First Direct Arena in Leeds on September 5, live on Sky Sports.

Murray is set for his first championship bout since facing middleweight star Gennady Golovkin for the World title in February, and the St Helens star is gunning for his first strap at 168 lbs. in his quest to land World honours.

Experienced Colombian Torres has claimed his last four wins inside the distance and the 36-year-old is taking Murray’s example by stepping up to super-middleweight as he looks to thwart the plans of the Brit in his 38th contest.

“This is the perfect fight for Martin and his first real test since the Golovkin fight,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “Torres always comes to fight, is exciting to watch and can really punch. He has been in at elite level, and neither will take a step backwards in Leeds.”

Murray’s clash with Torres is part of a huge night of action in Yorkshire as Josh Warrington defends his Commonwealth and WBC International featherweight titles against Joel Brunker.

There’s a pair of English title bouts as Andy Townend defends his super-featherweight crown against Lee Glover while Isaac Lowe and Jamie Speight contest the vacant featherweight strap, unbeaten Birmingham super-flyweight star Kal Yafai is in action and unbeaten light-heavyweight star Callum Johnson faces Tony Hill.
