imagesLadies and gentleman, it is that time again. Yes, it is fight week. Willie Nelson is back to take on the dangerous Vanes Martirosyan (34-1, 21 KO) this Saturday from the Foxwoods Resort.

There is no doubt that Nelson will be ready come Saturday. He is feeling 100 percent focused for what comes his way. Nelson has not suffered any injuries during training camp, so ‘The Great’ Willie Nelson is in no excuse territory.

Aside from being focused, Nelson had no issues making weight. While speaking about his training camp, Nelson noted that training camp was “pretty smooth.” Furthermore, Nelson sparred with undefeated prospect Patrick Day (8-0, 5 KO) and Dante Moore (9-1, 4 KO) in preparation for Martirosyan. Sparring with Moore could either benefit Nelson or it will not. Both Nelson and Moore are from Cleveland, Ohio, while Day is from New York.

Many analysts and fans are seeing this fight as the biggest of Nelson’s career. Nelson feels the same way, kind of. “I see every fight as the biggest fight of my career,” added Nelson. “Any time you take a loss, that could end your career.” The pressure will certainly be mounting on Nelson leading up to the opening bill given that he is fighting Martirosyan.

If Nelson does not lean over when he throws his right hand, he should not have many issues against Martirosyan. If he does, Martirosyan has a tendency to make his opponents pay for mistakes.  Nelson has been working on improving on the flaw throughout training camp. Either way, Martirosyan is a dangerous opponent for a man who is on his way to earning a title shot.

Nelson, 6’3, will have a three inch height advantage against Martirosyan come Saturday. What do the fans think? Are we going to see a different Willie Nelson? Will he be able to make the necessary adjustments? Can Vanes Martirosyan shock the crowd and get a win? Martirosyan will be just as prepared to tame the beast. It all takes place at the Foxwoods Resort Casino on Saturday October 4th.
