Not A Solution For “The Problem”

As most fight fans already know, former 3 division world champion Adrien Broner (27-1 22KO’s) will be making his return to the ring on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather v Marcos Maidana PPV undercard on May 3rd .  The fight will most likely to contest at the 140 lb. weight limit and will be televised live on Showtime PPV.

After Broner’s last fight, fans where excited about Broner’s return to the ring and where more curios than ever to see how the young fighter will react in his first fight since suffering his only defeat at the hands of Maidana.  Lately, Broner has been fighting at a fairly high level against good opposition and most fans where expecting him to continue this trend despite suffering a humble defeat in his last outing.

Originally, Broner was calling for a re-match with Maidana before accepting to step aside to let Floyd fight him instead.  Not only is Broner not going to have his re-match with the Argentine star but he also going to be dropping down to 140 lbs where his handlers feel is a better weight class for him.  But Broner won’t be fighting a top ten contender at 140 lbs. either. Instead he will be fighting a blown up lightweight who doesn’t have punching power and has been inactive since December 2012.

This fight does not benefit the fans or Broner in any way.  From a fans perspective, this fight is an obvious mismatch that’s nothing more than just a crummy showcase fight.

As for Broner, fighting a guy like Carlos Molina does absolutely nothing for his development as a prize fighter.  Both HBO and Showtime did great last year with their boxing programming in my opinion, but to air fights like this is completely unacceptable and should not be tolerated by the fans.
