Jonathan OquendoGolden Boy Promotions scored big with their recent signing of Jonathan “Polvo” Oquendo. It was announced today that Oquendo inked a deal with Golden Boy, who promoted the Puerto Rican featherweight’s past fights.

Oquendo returns to Golden Boy after pulling off the mild upset over Jhonny Gonzalez by 10 round majority decision in a very exciting fight on the Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Andre Berto undercard on September 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Golden Boy CEO Oscar De La Hoya is very excited about the addition of Oquendo, and he is optimistic about his future, especially coming off of such a big win.

“We’ve had a long relationship with Jonathan and are thrilled to welcome him back as he continues his journey to becoming a world champion,” said Oscar De La Hoya, Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. “Jonathan’s win over Jhonny Gonzalez showed just how dangerous he is to all titleholders at 126 and 130 pounds. Talent and experience are both crucially important at this level, and Jonathan has both.”

Oquendo is hoping to get a title shot soon, but his immediate goals are to get into the ring as soon as possible in an effort to take full advantage of the momentum he built from the Gonzalez win. He is pleased to be with Golden Boy and confident that they will help him achieve every single goal.

“Golden Boy Promotions has always been fair with me and they’ve given me all the opportunities I’ve hoped for over the years,” said Jonathan Oquendo. “They are family and I am glad to have them on my side as I look to continue my dream to become a world champion.”
