untitledOscar De La Hoya was on the set in the ESPN Deportes Studio and was in high spirits on having a successful 2015 for his company and the sport in general.

Here are some of the highlights of the segment:

On Cotto-Canelo:

“The good thing is we have already had conversations with Bob Arum and Top Rank regarding the fight. I’m going to sit down and talk with Arum in the next couple of days and hopefully we can make a deal on the fight.”

Regarding the date for Cotto-Canelo:

“It’s no secret that Canelo wants to fight in May, the second of May. If Mayweather wants to fight, he can fight in April or June.”

Working with Mayweather:

“I don’t see any reason why I can’t work with Mayweather. We have a good working and business relationship.”

Location of Cotto-Canelo:

“There are a lot of options. There’s the stadium in Dallas for example, it holds up to 100,000 people. This fight needs a venue where a lot of people can see it live, I’d like it to be in Dallas or San Antonio in the Alamo Dome.” (Though he did not rule out other venues like Madison Square Garden, Barclays Center, or MGM Grand.)

Mayweather-Cotto 2 Rumors:

“Don’t go crazy over them. Miguel Cotto has a contract with HBO and Mayweather with Showtime, so it’d be nearly impossible. The fight is Canelo-Cotto on HBO, Mexico vs. Puerto Rico.”

More Fights on HBO:
“We want more of our fights on HBO. HBO is a strong platform because they want to make the best fights and that’s the reason 2015 is going to be a strong year. I think it’s important that we use all the platforms on HBO like HBO Latino where we can get some exposure for younger fighters. It’s important to have a series where we can have fans follow these young fighters and turn them into fan favorites and fans can follow their favorite young fighter throughout their career.”

Still working with Showtime:

“I’m working with them on December 13th. It’s important for boxing to work with both so we can have options in terms of business, more dates, and the winner is the fans.”
