Oscar De La Hoya vs Stephen EspinozaNot too long ago Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions had an agreement with Showtime in which Showtime would broadcast fights featuring Golden Boy fighters. The relationship did not last as long as one would think. Friction between the network and Golden Boy seemed to hit its boiling point when Floyd Mayweather decided that he would no longer with with Golden Boy and Al Haymond taking a good portion Golden Boy’s fighters.

Since then Golden Boy fighters have re-appeared on HBO and De La Hoya and Showtime’s Stephen Espinosa have constantly taken shots at each other with De La Hoya’s most recent jabs aimed towards Mayweather-Pacquiao and the lack of action that transpired in that mega fight.

One of De La Hoya’s tweets after Mayweather-Pacquiao had shown his dissatisfaction with the mega fight and that fans should tune into Saul “Canelo” Alvarez vs. James Kirkland if they wanted to see action and not be disappointed. Oscar’s statements did not go unnoticed by Espinosa, who shot a jab at the “Golden Boy” after Canelo knocked out Kirkland.
“Wow Oscar De La Hoya,” Espinosa said. “Great matchmaking. Canelo vs.a guy who had fought once in 3 years. Ishida KO’ed [Kirkland ]quicker…Canelo – Ishida next?”

The bitterness may between the two companies may not be all that bad. It may, in fact, give fans better fights as the companies compete and try to outdo each other. Where it goes from here is up in the air but don’t expect to see them working together any time soon.
