This week on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights main event boxing fans will be treated to a all action bout between Vernon “Ice Man” Paris (27-1) and Manuel Perez (19-8-1). Both of these guys have something to prove to the boxing world and it will be revealed under the lights of Detroit, Michigan’s Masonic Temple. This fight will definitely be a clash of styles and is the classic boxer versus puncher matchup that makes fights exciting. Most boxing-heads are looking past this fight and forward to Lucas Matthysse facing Lamont Peterson. Which is understandable but this still should be one hell of a entertaining fight.

Vernon Paris is currently in rebuilding mode after losing the biggest fight of his life to Zab Judah, back in March of last year. Judah really put it on Paris for 9 long rounds, just punished him. Since then Paris has scored a TKO victory and hopes to get back to a winning streak this Friday. With the fight being in his hometown of Detroit, Paris will definitely have the advantage. However, he would be smart to not look past Perez or he could have his second lose on his record. I’m looking to see improvement from Paris. He throws some wild hooks but by shortening them up and adding some defense, he can become a very solid fighter.

Just like Paris, Manual Perez is also beginning reconstruction after his most recent lose against Paul McCloskey. Some people may call Perez feather fisted and you can’t really argue with that. He only has 2 wins by KO, which makes his KO percentage a whooping 14.29%. Honestly though, a low knock out percentage doesn’t matter. Power isn’t a requirement to win in a boxing match and Perez already has wins against some heavy handed opponents. Most notably Jose Cotto (33-4-1), who Perez edged out a split decision victory, back in July of last year. Can Perez do the same thing against the powerful and wild Parish? You will have to tune in to see.

I want to hear what you boxing fans think? Who will win this one? Will it be Paris by knockout? Perez by decision? Be sure to leave your predictions in the comments section below.
