PED scandal cancels another fight on The Wire Report

There is this saying that lighting doesn’t strike twice in the same spot, tell that to Golden Boy Productions who was struck twice by opponent’s using PED’s. Today I discuss The Andre Berto situation. Amir Khan’s reaction to Peterson’s apology, Mikkel Kessler vs Alan Green.  Rigondeaux defends his title in June..This and more on today’s Wire Report.

Andre Berto who was scheduled to fight Victor Ortiz on June 23, at the Staples Center for their anticipated second battle, but it seems to have been cancelled, because Andre Berto has failed one of the random drug tests. They were issued by the VADA (Voluntary Anti Drug Association) and it was discovered that there was nandrolone traced in Berto’s blood samples. An anabolic steroid that is one of the most used amongst athletes.  At the moment we don’t know if the fight will go on, but I’m sure that Berto’s career will suffer like Lamont Peterson’s will. Maybe we should have a fight between the Berto and Peterson, for the welterweight PED championship of the world.

Amir Khan was recently on BBC Radio, saying that drug testing should be introduced into boxing to try and clean it up. This after his fight with Lamont Peterson had been cancelled because Peterson had tested positive for synthetic testosterone. This match was a highly anticipated return bout of a controversial split decision that left Khan title less. Now Amir and his promotion company are trying to regain his lost titles by taking legal action against Lamont Peterson. Even going as far as stating that Golden Boy would never promote another fight in Peterson’s home city of Washington DC if Lamont’s titles are not stripped. Peterson apologized to Khan, for not allowing him the opportunity to win back his titles, he felt it was a honest mistake, and that he should not be called a cheat for this. Khan’s rejected Peterson’s apology saying “It will take more then just an apology for what happened last December, my life was at risk. One punch can change a fighter’s life”. Adding “He should be punished for what he did”. We don’t know what will happen to Lamont Peterson or Amir Khan’s titles, only time will tell.

Tonight’s biggest fight will be held in Copenhagen, Denmark home of former super middle weight champ Mikkel Kessler. The hometown hero faces American Allan Green for the WBC Silver light heavyweight belt. Word is Kessler did not want this fight at the legitimate light heavyweight limit of 175, so the fight is at a catch weight of 172.Forcing Green to lose weight in order to fight. I see this fight going the distance, But ending with a controversial decision, just because boxing needs one right now.

Speaking of weight, Odlanier Solis weighed in at a marshmallowy 267.5 for to tonight’s fight in Texas against Konstantin Airich, at the Convention Center, in Pharr, Texas.

Back in action on June 9th defending his WBA title is super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (9-0, 7KO’s) facing Teon Kennedy (17-1-2, 7KO’s) at the MGM grand in Las Vegas, NV.

So if we learned anything in the month of May, if you are facing a Golden Boy Productions fighter Do Not use PED’s. You will get caught because GBP cares about the fighters in its stable. Actually that is not entirely true, how about if you are going to use PED’s against a Golden Boy fighter, don’t ask for VADA testing until your cycle is over.. It seems both Peterson and Berto took the same courses in school Cheating 101. They should have waited to learn Cheating 102/ the art of not getting caught. That is all for today’s Wire Report, catch you guys next time..
