Prichard Colon Trained by Pedro DiazPedro Diaz has been in the corner of two of the best world champions in the sport as a head trainer. He’s been in the corner with the likes of Guillermo Rigondeaux and Miguel Cotto. Now as the head trainer of rising Puerto Rican prospect Prichard Colon, he feels he has another prize pupil in his stable.

“We had our training camp in Germany, and we worked on pressure and to go the distance,” Diaz said of Colon’s performance. “We wanted to go the distance but if we got the knockout, we get the knockout.”

With the lack of world champions from the island of Puerto Rico, Diaz feels that Colon’s team is in place to make the right moves to bring him to stardom. With the right team and the right trainer, Diaz feels we may be looking at the next Puerto Rican world champion.

“We have a team that’s real force,” Diaz said. “So we’ll sit down with the team and we’ll see where his future lies. But Puerto Rico is a proud island and at the moment there’s only one champion but soon it will return to being an island of champions.”

Diaz is the former trainer of Miguel Cotto before his exodus to Freddie Roach after his loss to Austin Trout. Diaz has no beefs with his former fighter and feels his career is in the right hands. He also feels Freddie Roach is the right guy to be in his corner and feels he will be the difference in a Canelo Alvarez fight.

“Miguel is an excellent boxer,” Diaz said of his former pupil. “I think Miguel is an extraordinary fighter and an extraordinary person and he has the best corner in the game right now with Freddie Roach. I think the best corner will take him to new levels in victory over Canelo.”
