Ruslan Provodnikov returned this past Friday with a TKO victory over a past his prime, overmatched, Jose Luis Castillo. It was a bit of a disappointment in 2014 for Provodnikov. After losing his title in a debated decision against Chris Algieri, he could not find a suitable opponent for a return date on HBO.
After that his promoter said that they had offered Maurico Herrera and Zab Judah a fight Provodnikov in Russia where he said they both declined, Castillo ultimately accepted .
Provodnikov’s promoter however hopes that 2015 is a much better year and is eyeing a March return.
“Ruslan should return in the U.S., likely to happen in March 28th on HBO,” Artie Pelullo, Provodnikov’s promoter stated in a report by Boxingscene.com.
“As for the opponent, we’d consider Marcos Maidana, Danny Garcia, and Lucas Matthysse,” stated Pelullo.
While all the those fights are excellent, all 3 are managed by Al Haymon, who’s relationship with HBO has been almost nonexistent since Floyd Mayweather jumped from HBO to Showtime. Also there are rumors that Haymon will have a series on NBC where a lot of his fighters could end up on in 2015.
