ThaBoxingVoice – Hello. Jerry Belmontes, how are you doing after such a great win?

Jerry Belmontes– Feeling Good, I am not sore, I got a little black eye but that’s about it.

ThaBoxingVoice -This was supposed to be your “toughest test” according to the media, was it as hard as they thought?

Belmontes– Actually it really wasn’t. He had a good record on paper, but I think that my last fight against Randall Gills was a tougher one than this one. This fight just looked good on paper.

ThaBoxingVoice – Top Rank let you go. Do you ever use it as motivation to prove to Top Rank they made a mistake?

Belmontes -In the beginning, it was something like that. I want it to prove to everybody they had made a mistake, but now I have signed with Main Events and I feel I made the right choice and that motivates me.

ThaBoxingVoice -You’re in an exciting division and your compiling a pretty good resume, what do you expect in the near future of Jerry Belmontes at least for this year?

Belmontes -One more fight at least this year against another top 15 and then next year, call out everybody in the top ten.

ThaBoxingVoice– Did you feel the scorecards were accurate? Was he tougher than you expect him to be? Because you were talking about ending it earlier, you weren’t able to do that.

Belmontes -Actually when I got out of the ring I talked to my manager. I thought I won 5 out of 8 rounds, and then you watched it and I thought I won six. I mean I was surprised he could take a punch, I hit him with some big hooks and rights and he stood there, he didn’t quit.

ThaBoxingVoice -Is it safe to say he disrupted your game plan? Or did you not stick to your game plan? Or was he just a little tougher than you expected?

Belmontes -Yeah I stuck to my game plan, out boxing him but being smart about it and being a good counter puncher. I just thought I had a lot of power to take him out but I didn’t know he had a chin like that.

ThaBoxingVoice-What do you think you bring into the division now that Adrien Broner moved up? The division is pretty much open for the taking. What do you expect to do in the immediate standpoint?

Belmontes– There’s a lot of things I could do. I don’t see anybody that could work angles and counter punch like I do. I’m in the top ten and I’m coming for the best in the top 10.
