“I started my Olympic boxing pursuit four years ago with nothing more than a dream and determination to win”Raquel Miller stated via her IndieGoGo as she seeks funding for her 2016 bid at the Olympic Games. Unlike other professional sports and arguably other amateur sports such as college football per say where it is assumed the “student athletes are paid under the table”, amateur boxers are simply not allowed, “….expenses and training [are] paid out of pocket by [the] athlete.”Miller further explained.

For Miller, a 2012 Olympic alternate with a list of credentials longer than most doctor’s resume with most notable her 2013 National Golden Gloves Champion gold medal and 2013 National PAL Champion- Gold Medalist as well as being the 2012 U.S. Nationals champion. “The key is a bunch of short term goals that will lead to my big term goal, which is the Olympics bid.”

Miller, who trains full-time in the evening at World Class Boxing Gym in San Francisco, CA working with coach Jairo Escobar. On this particular day, Escobar decided to teach Miller a new combo as Miller remarked “…you would teach me something new when the camera is here.”The camera, Miller is referring to is the one that was adorn from my neck filming some of the action as Miller quickly picked up the combinations as her speed rapidly picked up as her timing got dialed in. It was not unlike a John Cage song, where you didn’t know when the change occurred, but at some point Miller was going full speed hitting the mitts in stride while keeping her distance cutting off the ring.

“My goal is to inspire others while uplifting and encouraging one another to overcome obstacles, face fears and pursue dreams.”Miller is currently training in Colorado in preparation of her yet to be announced upcoming bout. To help support Raquel Miller, follow the link below
