A few weeks ago Joseph Diaz Jr. moved up to 135 lbs. to take on and defeat Javier Fortuna for the WBC 135 Interim Title. It was not an easy fight and Fortuna is a fighter that many others avoided. After the fight Diaz called out stablemate Ryan Garcia which came as a surprise as Devin Haney was the presumed target should Diaz win.

This came as a shock to many as Garcia was originally scheduled to fight Fortuna but pulled out due to mental health reasons. Garcia faced criticism for the decision as shortly after Diaz – Fortuna was announced Garcia stated via social media that he will shortly be returning to the ring.

Should Diaz and Garcia fight it would be the biggest fight in both of their careers. No doubt it would do big numbers in Southern California and the winner of that fight should go straight to fighting Haney. But who would the winner be?

Boxing Manager Rick Mirigian believes that Diaz comes out the winner in that bout. The experience Diaz carries and his heart in the ring are just small factors. The real factor Diaz would win would be his son according to Mirigian.

“I have been asked by media people now 5 times, what do I think about Joseph Diaz Jr & Ryan Garcia,” stated Mirigian via social media. “Simple…..it fills any arena in LA and I think Diaz wins, more real experience, more heart and I saw him with his son, I see what he fights for now. He’s motivated on a diff level!”
