brandon-rios-celebratesWelterweight contender Brandon Rios(33-2-1, 24KO’s) recently told Elie Seckbach of Esnewsreporting.com just how quick Manny ‘Pacman’ Pacquiao’s hands really are.

Pacquiao(57-5-2, 38KO’s) conquered Rios in his first fight back from a year-long absence from the ring, necessitated by his brutal knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez in December 2012. During the course of the win, Pacquiao threw combination after combination after combination and his volume and output carried the day. But Rios says it was the speed with which the shots came at him that unsettled him the most.

“Well when I fought Manny, that motherfucker was fast. He was so fast he makes super-fast people look not-fast.”

Rios travelled all the way to Macau, China to take his loss but felt he was thoroughly prepared for the task at hand, even though Pacquiao’s other assets created a whole storm of troubles for him.

“And he was just awkward bro. I had some sparring guys, using lefties I thought I was doing good. I was doing great with them; then I got in the ring with Manny Pacquiao it was just a different story man. Different animal. He throws at different angles.”

The speed and angles of Manny Pacquiao are what keeps being cited by his former opponents as the most bewildering aspects of his game. When Floyd Mayweather Jr(47-0, 26KO’s) steps in against him on May 2nd in Las Vegas will he be able to adjust to these qualities. The undefeated American is famed for his malleability in the ring but has never fought a man of Pacquiao’s worth. And vice versa.
