downloadEver since Miguel Cotto decided to go under Freddie Roach’s tutelage he has been nothing short of astounding in the ring. His punches seem crispier, the ability to find openings have slightly improved, and most importantly he’s a much happier fighter in training camp. The virtuous chemistry between the two has resulted in such great success that it led Cotto to express that he wants Roach as his final trainer until he retires.

With Cotto being in the closing stages of his illustrious career, he certainly wants to leave the sport of boxing with a statement. Roach has expressed similar ideals for Cotto, which is why he’s shown tremendous interest in facing the young Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Roach told Tha Boxing Voice “Canelo is my number one choice. I want [Cotto] to fight the pretty boy and I think we’ll expose him.”

A bout between Cotto and Alvarez may be the second most sought out match in the sport of boxing in the year 2015, right after Mayweather-Pacquiao. Both bouts seem inevitable to take place at the moment, and if Cotto and Mayweather are both victorious in their fights, a rematch between the two future hall of famers may be plausible.

Roach admitted he’s interested in a Mayweather-Cotto bout as well because he believes his Puerto Rican fighter would be victorious the second time around. His reasoning is the fact that Cotto had success in their first clash, and since Cotto is now a more improved fighter he should be able to deliver a much better performance in their rematch, and manage to pull off the victory.
