Light middleweight and future welterweight Mikael Zewski (17-0-13KO’s), a Trois-Rivieres, Quebec native who is signed and fights for Top Rank Promotions, continues to impress ending his eight-rounder with Cesar Chavez (20-3) with a left-right uppercut combination for a knockout 37 seconds into the first round.

“I’ve been very busy and I’m really happy with it, I fight everywhere and I fight all the time, but as long I’m knocking them out fast like I did in [my last fight] 37 seconds into the first round I’m ready to go tomorrow if I need to. I’m always ready; I’m always in the gym working very hard. I’m on a roll, everything is going great and I just can’t wait to fight again,” Zewski said.
Mikael Zewski has been brought along properly by Top Rank and where most Canadian fighters come to the states later in their career, Zewski has been blessed to have the bulk of his fight take place in Las Vegas, NV fighting for only the fourth time on home soil when he faced Cesar Chavez of Mexico on the undercard of former IBF super-middleweight champion Lucian Bute’s bounce-back win against Russian Denis Grachev at the Bell Centre.

A big knock against the Canadian promoters is that their boxers rarely fight outside the country, so they are ill-prepared for the pressure of facing an opponent in hostile territory. The previously unbeaten Bute is the perfect example of that as he was dismantled in five rounds by Carl Froch in England to lose his IBF super-middleweight belt in May. Bute, from Montreal, had rarely fought anywhere but in Quebec or his native Romania.

“My name is being put out there [in Canada] I think in the states also, and I have the chance to have a career in the United States and I think every fighter here in Canada they wish to fight in Las Vegas once in their whole career and I’ve had the chance to fight here most of the time. It’s definitely an advantage that I have, having a career here in Quebec and just fighting here all the time, and going to Vegas where nobody knows you, you’re not fighting home, you’re not fighting in front of your fans and you have this pressure that you just can’t handle then you don’t perform well when you have to, that’s not going to happen with me, because I was built in the states so when i get that big exposure either on HBO or Showtime I think I’ll be able to handle the pressure better than a Canadian built fighter,” explained Zewski.
