Canadian cruiserweight/heavyweight prospect Rob Nichols has not fought in over a year and has tried time after time to land a fight to continue his journey to capturing a Canadian title. He was scheduled for a cruiserweight bout last September but his opponent pulled out of the bout just a couple days before the fight and no replacements were found in time.
Since then, Nichols has moved from Edmonton back to Cold Lake where he grew up and got into boxing. In a recent statement issued by Nichols he states that he is still in search for a title and offers have been made but nothing was ever signed.
“So…I am still alive,” stated Nichols. “I’ve moved and started my life over in many different ways. As far as boxing goes, I was very disappointed with having my opponent pull out last minute back in September. I was training to fight at 200 pounds and for six rounds to get me ready to start making a move into the Canadian cruiserweight division. I’m looking to make a serious run for this title and have had offers for serious fights. Fights that could be made are guys who have been number one contenders in the division like former Common Wealth Games and Pan-Am Games winner Jason Douglas. Another is two time cruiserweight title holder Frank White. Those guys have a lot of experience and deserve to be respected for their accomplishments. However, without great risk there will never be great reward.”
Nichols continued. “For anyone that doesn’t know me, I’ve already proven that I’m willing to face opponents with the odds against me. The question now is how will things play out when I am on a level playing field. I’m back in training and looking for a fight as early as June.”
Nichols has continued his work and is also looking to help pro and amateur boxing within his community.
“If all goes well I would like to assist a local promoter for a Pro/Am card. Cold Lake is my hometown area and they have one of the five existing combative sports commissions in Alberta. It would be great to help and be on the show in my own back yard.”
